Mountaintop Elopement at Trail Ridge Road
Trail Ridge Road isn’t just a skyward pass through the Rockies; it’s a journey through history and wonder. This remarkable road reaches an elevation of over 12,000 feet. In fact, it is the highest continuous paved road in the United States. As you wind your way through its twists and turns, you’re following in the footsteps of early explorers who marveled at the same vistas centuries ago.
Trail Ridge Road is part of the historic Old Fall River Road. It’s a route that dates back to 1920 when it was built as a motor nature trail. Today, it’s a testament to human engineering and the enduring beauty of nature. Along this road, you’ll encounter a mesmerizing display of Rocky Mountain wildlife. You will even traverse through various climate zones from montane forests to alpine tundra. It’s not just a road; it’s a living history lesson, a gateway to adventure, and a path to unparalleled perspective.
High Alpine Lakes: Nature’s Hidden Gems
One of the most enchanting aspects of Katelyn and Colin’s mountaintop elopement was their journey to a secluded High Alpine Lake. Tucked away among the towering peaks and lush alpine meadows, this hidden gem offered intimacy for their celebration of love. High Alpine Lakes are one of nature’s masterpieces! They remind us of the raw beauty and tranquility that can be found in the heart of the mountains.
A Day of Love and Reflection
The day began at dawn when we met Katelyn and Colin. They embarked on a short but steep mountain path that led to a first look that took their breath away – quite literally. The thin air at such high elevations made each step a reminder that we weren’t in Kansas anymore! The warmth of the sun embraced them as they sat together on the rocky landscapes and basked in the golden light that radiated from the horizon. While Katelyn and Colin were fortunate to experience a day with mild winds, it’s important to note that high-elevation roads can be extremely windy and result in bone-chilling coldness. To ensure overall comfort, always layer up with gloves, hats, scarves, and earmuffs!
A Night to Remember: Moonrise and Lantern Portraits
Katelyn and Colin ended their celebration with a campfire first dance and s’mores. They also marveled at the moonrise as its light pierced through the fluffy clouds. We even captured some fun and enchanting portraits with lanterns!
Leave No Trace: Preserving the Beauty of High Alpine Tundra
Keep in mind that stepping on anything green or colorful at high elevations can have detrimental effects on the land. When visiting high elevations always stay on designated trails. Trees cannot grow beyond a certain elevation, but green alpine tundra biome can. Just like love, this unique ecosystem demonstrates resilience and strength. It adapts to its environment and can endure the harshest climates and severe cold.
