Colorado Hiking Elopement: A Day of Intention and Connection
Amy and Alex’s Colorado hiking elopement included exploration of high alpine lakes, refreshing hikes around mountainous trails, and joyriding in a sports car around the curves of a mountain pass! In the heart of this alpine wilderness, their elopement transcended traditional wedding norms to embrace the raw beauty of nature. With Mother Earth as their witness and the mountains as their chapel, they embarked on a Colorado adventure elopement unlike any other!
Colorado Hiking Elopement Tips
If you are considering a Colorado hiking elopement, always have plenty of water with you and snacks to boost your energy. Prioritize wearing comfortable hiking shoes! Carrying items such as chapstick, bug spray, and hiking poles will ensure your maximum level of comfort. If you are wearing a dress with a longer skirt or train, the bridal buddy is extremely helpful! Always remember to practice the seven principles of Leave No Trace to take care of the natural landscape and the creatures that call it home.
How to Elope at an Alpine Lake
If you are considering an alpine lake or Colorado hiking elopement, make sure that you come prepared. Regardless of how warm it gets during the day, as soon as the sun goes down, it will get chilly. Bring layers and warm accessories like gloves, hats, scarves, and earmuffs.
Additionally, we recommend arriving in Colorado a few days early to acclimate to the higher elevation and to provide a smooth transition for your lungs and mind. By definition, a high alpine lake is essentially a high elevation lake that is located at or above the tree line. Some lakes are easily accessible while others require more hiking or 4-wheel driving. Keep this in mind while planning your alpine lake elopement, and of course, consult your elopement photographers for advice!
Splitting Time: The Advantage of Two Adventures
Most of our Colorado elopement packages allow you to split your time into two different sections, which is hugely advantageous. You can experience two completely different adventures that are their own unique thing. We also achieve more variety in your photographs by accessing two separate locations. It also allows us to take advantage of the best light. Moreover, having a break allows you to relax and soak in those significant moments before taking on a whole new adventure.
Not only can you split your time across one day – you can even split your time across different days. It is truly the most efficient way to utilize your time with photographers. You can see how vastly colorful the environment is when she’s waking up compared to when she’s going to sleep. The atmosphere and vibe also creates unique moments for you and your partner to experience!
Sunrise: A Stillness and Reflection
As the day began, we met just before sunrise. Amy and Alex changed into their wedding attire, and we coordinated their sweet first look! Then, we embarked on a hike to explore scenic vistas, overlooks, and the first high alpine lake. Sunrise is the ideal time for alpine lake elopements because mornings have a high likelihood of being still. When there is no wind, the water’s surface reflects like a mirror, and the undistorted reflections create a parallel world!
Midday Adventure and Sunset Ceremony
Amy and Alex rented a sports car and had a blast riding through the sweeping mountain highway! It added even more exhilaration to the emotions of their elopement day. We took a break for the afternoon and reconvened near the trailhead for their sunset elopement ceremony. Amy and Alex savored the significance of getting married and savored delicious sandwiches on the cliffside overlooking a high alpine lake. As the sky transformed into a kaleidoscope of colors, the spectacular sunset created the most magical ambiance!
Stargazing: A Profound Connection
Before concluding their Colorado hiking elopement, we took a moment for star photography. Observing the clear night sky and shooting stars provided a profound connection to a higher self and the universe. Stargazing serves as a powerful reminder of the vastness and wonder that exists beyond our earthly realm. It is a fitting way to conclude any elopement day. It allows couples to connect more deeply with each other and the infinite universe itself.
The Beauty of Alpine Lakes
Part of our expertise lies in knowing the locations of alpine lakes and what to expect in each area. This includes popularity, weather conditions, and optimal times to visit. Alpine lakes that require more hiking or off-roading tend to offer more privacy. It’s worth noting that most alpine lakes are liquid for only half of the year and begin to freeze solid towards the end of the year. This creates the unique opportunity to exchange vows in the center of a frozen lake. Additionally, revisiting these lakes during different seasons allows you to witness all of their forms and colors, and it creates a lasting connection to your special day!
Client Love
“I will try to be short and sweet but I could write pages about our time with Meg and Kevin. Our time was magical from the very beginning. Meg and Kevin are nothing short of impressive and inspiring. Run Wild With Me caught me eye by just the name as that is what my now husband and I wanted to do. To run away into the enchanted wilderness of Colorado and have the most beautiful day, filled with love and laughter. Meg and Kevin answered my hundreds of questions throughout the entire process. They’ve got it down to a science and it really really works. I could not see any better way of doing it.
Working with Meg and Kevin on our day was refreshing, fun and care free. We collaborated ideas and it was so nice to see artists work. I loved seeing them get excited about an idea or shot that they just got! We got all the warm and fuzzies inside! I CANNOT recommend them enough!! There is a reason why my search started and ended with them! PS: the Bridal Buddy is THE best bridal accessory in wedding dress world! Embrace the silly and goofy it made the day more fun!” – Amy & Alex
