Tips for Finding Your Dream Elopement Location

So you’ve decided that you want to elope.  Congratulations!  That’s no small feat and the first step of an incredible adventure, but where do you want your next steps to take you?  If you are seeking tips for finding your dream elopement location, this blog should help.  It is important to understand just how many choices you actually have.  To put into perspective, there aren’t many places where you cannot get married.

Taste

Next, what do you want your elopement to taste like?  Perhaps, you have a favorite Parisian bistro that makes the world’s best macaroons and eclairs with which you would love to start your elopement day.  What about steamy Venetian ribollita and risotto after your winter elopement in Italy?  How about enjoying the hottest, most flavorful Ethiopian coffee while gazing out of your lakeside bungalow?  Perhaps you want to go fishing in a Rocky Mountain lake and catch your own trout together before you head to your ceremony and cook in the evening.  Maybe the driest Grecian Cabernet Sauvignon calls your name.  Are you hungry yet?  🙂

Sound

Moving on, what do you want your elopement to sound like?  Does an aviary in Singapore sound like your love?  Ocean waves rolling onto a southern Californian beach might beckon you.  Or perhaps your favorite musical artist only ever tours in Europe and a live experience with them and your sweetheart would be the most incredible thing ever.  You can absolutely plan your elopement with a concert as one of the featured moments.

Moreover, on the subject of sound, if you are choosing to get married in a public space, consider how much foot traffic there might be.  Do you mind the possibility of others or do you want to make sure there won’t be anyone else around.  Do you want to play music through a speaker for your first dance?  Let’s make sure there are no noise ordinances restricting this from happening.  Your elopement is starting to sound better already!

Feel

Now, what do you want your elopement to feel like?  This can also be helpful in picking the time of year you’d like to get married.  Do you want to swim in the Pacific Ocean or soak in a natural hot spring?  Do you want to parasail in Indonesia or skydive over Oahu?  How about a ride down the slopes in Telluride or Beaver Creek?  Does a water park in the Canary Islands complete your elopement day?  What about a gondola ride or zipline across Banff, Canada?  A Cuban cigar on the rooftop of a century old building might be the ticket.  Can you feel it?

Finally, this brings us to our last sense – what do you want your elopement to look like?  If you fully immerse yourself in imagining the other four senses, selecting what your elopement looks like might be simple at this point.  In what season do you want to get married?  What colors are your favorite accessories and what landscape compliments them?  Do the Northern Lights or Egyptian pyramids perfectly symbolize you and your partner’s relationship?  What are the top three places on your bucket list?
