Saint Mary’s Glacier Elopement | Kaila & Kirk
We met Kaila and Kirk at the trailhead early in the morning for their Saint Mary’s Glacier Elopement. The summer solstice had just passed. With the arrival of summer, one might imagine that it would bring sunshine and warmth. Well, Colorado had other things in mind.
In fact, the original elopement location for these two awesome adventurers was intended to be at the top of Mount Evans. However, due to the extended winter we saw this year, the more than 14,000 foot peak was just not ideal for an elopement. The lingering snow and slick terrain would have made it difficult. Though St. Mary’s Glacier presented safe hiking terrain, the morning greeted us with freezing winds of intense ferocity.
Kaila and Kirk are warriors. They handled the bitter cold with absolute grace and calmness. They had to change the day’s location, and then the new one was also somewhat challenging. If this is any indication, their strong love for one another will endure together. And that’s what the day was all about, which is why we absolutely love elopements!
We hiked to the lake to get Kaila’s dress on and do a first look as well as portraits of the beautiful bride and groom. It was so cold that we decided to hike back down to the cars just to momentarily have a full reprieve from the wind. It’s always a sensational feeling to be blasted by wind for an extended period of time and then to find complete stillness. We hiked back up for the ceremony with our guests when it was time.
Kaila and Kirk, thanks for letting us capture your special day! Your Saint Mary’s Glacier elopement was so much fun and we wish you all the best in the years to come!
